Introduction:
An HBO/Showtime style half-hour comedy-drama, featuring edgy humour and dealing with contemporary issues, in the same vein as CALIFORNICATION and GIRLS. Set in the sordid excitement of Hollywood, it’s inspired by real events such as the fallout of the #MeToo movement and the incorrect announcement of Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards. Logline: After a disastrous awards ceremony, a 2/10 film editor hooks up with a 10/10 award winning actress, and together they must deal with their own demons as well as the public’s perception of their relationship. Pilot Episode Synopsis: During the Academy Awards, DEX TOWNSEND is nominated for BEST FILM EDITOR. Announced incorrectly as the winner, he is humiliated on stage in front of the audience when the mistake is revealed. At an AFTER PARTY he is being further demeaned over the mix-up by his friend, MAL WORTHINGTON, who calls him a 2/10 guy with few prospects for the future. When KATIE MADDOX, the beautiful and famous best actress award winner arrives at the after party, Mal introduces Dex to her, and after it’s revealed they both hate after parties, they end up on the roof of the venue SMOKING WEED together and talking about themselves. When they are spotted doing drugs by a PAPPARAZZI, Katie passionately kisses Dex to take the focus away from the drug use. The next day, Katie wakes up in Dex’s bed, much to Mal’s surprise. The tabloid press is abuzz with rumours of Katies “new boyfriend” and are accompanied by a picture of the two of them kissing. Katie leaves Dex’s place, promising to call him later. Both Mal and his fuck-buddy, SAM MILES can’t believe that Katie would sleep with Dex, and while Mal is impressed by it, Sam is disgusted and suggests Dex did something dishonest to make it happen. While getting her make-up removed by her personal hair and make-up artist, JAHAN SHIRAZI, Katie reveals that she did in fact sleep with Dex, and that she likes him. Her agent, BRIT PARSONS arrives and berates her for sleeping with an “uggo”, suggesting that it’s going to affect her career negatively. Katie is defiant, and says she is planning to see him again much to Brit’s dismay. Katie indeed calls Dex to arrange a second date with him, although he is surprised – he wasn’t actually expecting her to call. Katie then heads into an appointment with her psychiatrist, DR. SUSAN JONES, and bursts into tears. |
